It started innocently enough with a remark made by a friend. "You gotta see this website, man is it bad!". Having
an interest in horribly designed websites, I headed on over. Mr friend was right. It was a rather objectionable site but, that
wasn't what bothered me. I like a poorly designed site, it is almost like art to me.
The website in question, was and is designed by a quasi-popular Canadian band (I would love to mention who).
A band which I didn't like very much, so I decided to vent on their online forum. My message was short but bitter-sweet. I told
them that they sucked and that their bass player/lead singer sucked(musically and personally).
When I was finished the message I was at a loss as to how I should sign it. I could have used my real name, but why?
It was my opinion and all they needed to know was what I thought. Also you never know when some might flame you. So
I decided on "bandkiller" for no other reason than that was how I felt at the time.
I went out of town for a couple of days, and when I returned to the website, the lead singer and his fans had all lined
up to tell the bandkiller what they thought of him.
Every message was as ignorant as my initial thread. Though everyone seemed to like my name.
I had made reference to a link on the site pointing to a rather ho-hum review of their debut album on a popular Canadian web portal called Canoe.
In my message I had stated that: "...even the Canoe guy thinks you suck!".
The lead singer didn't understand my "Canoe guy" reference. He called me crazy and suggested that I check myself into the nearest psychiatric clinic.
I didn't like being called crazy, though I probably deserved it. I decided to justify what I had said in my first message.
I posted a new message and a couple of days later there were more responses. This time a couple of the other band members responded(and grossly missed my point I might add). So, I wrote back again. And so did they.
After awhile I got sick of the industry-speak they would spew out in their threads and decided I had had enough.I wrote them one final time, but this time I put a stop in the circle in which they were talking.
Of course I could be tooting my own horn here. I can't prove (yet) that all of this transpired or even if my
arguments were founded. I would love to get someones opinion on the whole thing. But I can't. Why can't I?
Because the band took all of the responses and messages off of their website. Which brings me too why I created this site.
I decided that it is too easy for bands to pull the wool over their fans eyes. It was too easy for bands to talk their way out of shit.
That it was too easy for bands to create shitty music and call it self expression. I want to point out that "self-expression" is bullshit when you sound like everyone else! Too often wannabe's
attach themselves to current fads and try to pass themselves off as "hip". This lead singer used to be a cock-rocker and now he is a full-fledged alterna-grunger. And why?
Because "heavy metal hair" bands are out and so-called "alternative" is where the money is.
This website is not here to knock every band that tries to make a buck. Everyone needs to earn a living, of course. Only the bands that
that are so obvious in their attempts to sellout, will be featured here.
So there you have it
Sincerly
bandkiller
